Bullae

One of the most important discoveries concerning Hebrew epigraphy of the First Temple period is a group of 51 bullae, 45 of which are inscribed, found in Area G in a dwelling now referred to as the House of the Bullae. One of the bullae bears the name 'Gemariah son of Shaphan', also mentioned in the Bible as a royal scribe in the reign of Jehoiakim, king of Judah (late 7thcentury BCE), in the days of the prophet Jeremiah (Jeremiah 36:9-12).
