Al-Muqaddasi

Born in Jerusalem by the name of Shams ad-Din Abu ‘Abdallah b. Ahmad Abu Bakhar al-Bnaa al-Basri, but known as “the Jerusalemite”. He was well educated, and devoted himself to the study of geography. He traveled around the world, and made the pilgrimage to Mecca at the age of twenty, in order to acquire information necessary for his studies. His book( 985) systematically accounts all the places and regions he visited. His description of Palestine, and especially of Jerusalem, his birthplace, is one of the most important parts of the book.
