Several traditions identify the stone of Mount Moriah (=�the place�) with the stone that Jacob had chosen to put under his head just before he dreamt of the great ladder and of the ascending and descending angels:
And he lighted upon the place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and laid down in that place to sleep (Genesis 28:11).
